There Josiah served in the Revolutionary War, as shown in the following records. He died in March of 1796 at the age of 81.
"On the Muster Roll of the Company belonging to Captain Thomas Simpson at Coos Co." The original now in the Pension Bureau at Washington, DC, "appears the name of "Josiah Whittlesey."
"On the payroll of Captain Thomas Simpson's Ranging Co., in the service of New Hampshire," are the following records.
No. 23, Josiah Whittlesey, "Private;" Pay 2 pounds per month; date of Service Oct. 1, 1776; "Length of service 2 months 1 day" wages advanced 1.12;" Wages due, 3.1.4"
On the muster roll of Captain Timothy Barrons Co., in a Regmt. Raised for the (defense) of the Frontiers on and adjacent to the Conn. River, by Col. Timothy Bedel," is found the following record. Appoint first of April 1779, Josiah Whittlesey.
