October 18, 1862 enlisted in the 6th Independent Sharp Shooters, U.S.
161st regiment of Ohio. He mustered out July 19, 1865 and during his service was a prisoner in the Andersonville prison.
He and Julia moved t6o Bennet in 1868. They lived northwest of Bennet, on June 17, 1871 filing a homestead claim. To this union seven children were born. Six were born in a dug out.
