Joseph D. Howell was born in Montgomery County, Virginia, September 23d, 1837. At the age of four years he came with his father's family to the Territory of Iowa, where he resided continuously in Jefferson County, with the exception of four years in Van Buren County, until his death April 23d. His father, John Howell, represented Montgomery County two terms in the state senate, and Jefferson County two terms in the house of representatives. The deceased was united in marriage to Jane E. Workman Oct. 24, 1856. Five children - James T. of Martinsburg, Benjamin D. of Bloomfield, John S. of Glasgow, Joseph C. of Glendale, and Mrs. Elizabeth Brewer of Stockport. Nora Workman, a niece, was a member of his family from early childhood until her marriage in 1893....Glasgow Baptist Church. The FAIRFIELD LEDGER, May 4, 1904, Page 3, col. 2.
